First and foremost thank you for your generosity and for the opportunity to learn about comprehensive financial experiences from many different views. As a Military Disabled Veteran on this Memorial Day I participate in honoring those who have given their lives to ensure we ALL can pursue a peaceful life. SEMPER FIDELIS.
Tan says
I am grateful for the selflessness of those who have fought for our country and risked their lives. I also honor the countless number of soldiers who never returned from war, whom died unknown and whom families never received closer on the whereabouts of their loved ones. There are still thousands of people missing from previous wars. I pray for their families.
Sara says
The best way to celebrate any holiday is with family. Time to disconnect from social media and reconnect with family.
Brian D Humphrey says
When I think of Memorial Day, I think of all the military lives that have been given for our freedom and way of life. I think of Vietnam in particular as I grew up during this era. I’m from a small town in western Kentucky and we had a hometown hero who was killed in this war. A park was named in his honor.
Mark Clemens says
I love that you do this! Thank you to you and to all that gave so much for us to have the freedoms we enjoy!
The Crusher says
Thank you for your generosity and for doing so in a way that draws additional attention to these brave men and women who sacrificed so much for our country.
Memorial Day is a very special time to honor those who frankly we should be honoring constantly. It so often reminds me of the quote that “Freedom is not Free”. Thank you to all who have served.
Eric Petterson says
When I think about memorial day I think about kids who are younger than me who gave their lives in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. I think about both of my grandfathers who served. I think about my father in law who served in Vietnam and is now struggling with his health. I am grateful that they all gave so I could enjoy a quality and mostly peaceful life.

I am thankful to all who served in the past and are serving today, including some of my own family members. On Memorial Day and on many other days throughout the year, I visit the grave where my father and his parents are buried. My father was a first-generation American who served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War, and my grandfather served in World War One as an Army private not too long after he arrived here from Italy. When he came back from WWI, my grandfather started a local small business in Massachusetts that was taken over by my father and that today is owned and operated by one of my brothers. That brother’s son now works for him and will take over the family business in the coming years. This great country of ours allowed an 18 year old Italian immigrant to come here and thrive by serving in his new country’s military and then starting a business that has employed and provided for many family members and all of its employees for over 100 years. One of those family members is a nephew of mine who is coming to the end of his commitment in the Army after completing ROTC several years ago. What an awesome country we live in!
Ryan says
We are blessed to be living a country where we have the freedoms we do. Thanks to those who served and gave their lives defending our nation.
Lori says
I am thankful for those who serve and protect. I will enjoy this 3 day weekend by carving out some time to visit my mothers resting place at Arlington National Cemetery. She was an Air Force nurse that flew international medical evacuations for injured servicemen (even though she had terrible motion sicknesses herself while on military transport planes).
Kyle Wilson says
Today is a day I celebrate my brothers and sisters in arms that are serving in God’s Military now. They will never be forgotten. Hoah!
Debbie says
I’m an Air Force brat and my father was career. Have 3 uncles and a cousin that served in the Army. My family was blessed all came back alive. Gratitude for all that have served our country throughout time and prayers for family and friends of those who gave the ultimate for us.
Amy says
Thank you and Rest In Peace to those whose service cost them their lives. You are not forgotten.
Brett Gehringer says
Memorial Day means we should stop and think about the sacrifices men and women have given to make this world a safer place for someone else, not just on Memorial Day, but every day.
Paul Dillmuth says
Thanks for your generosity.
Having served in the military, memorial day is very personal for me as I remember my friends that gave their life in service.
Sheila Lee says
Thank you for honoring Memorial Day by running this contest. I honor and remember all those who lost their lives serving us, not just the soldiers but also the police and all other public servants. Last but not least., I honor those who passed in my family.
Kris L. says
I spent my 19th birthday at a kegger in college, my father spent his in Vietnam. Thankfully, my dad came home, but so many did not.
I didn’t understand that sacrifice when I was younger, but at 50+, I am forever grateful for the men and women who enlisted to serve their country and made the ultimate sacrifice.
Thank you to all who have served and are currently serving!
RWW says
This is a time for us to be thankful for all our families and family members who have made this country what we have today. THE BEST COUNTRY IN OUR WORLD.
Jeff Flynn says
Memorial Day means to me a day to remember the sacrifices that those before us made – including the ultimate sacrifice. They were willing to give their all for this country, and the generations to follow. Their selflessness calls on ALL of us to think of others before ourselves, a message desperately needed now
Pearl says
As an immigrant, I count my blessings everyday. This holiday is a good reminder to thank men and women serving our country. Thank you for the giveaway.

Memorial Day is a day of reflection for my family. The sacrifices of the many men and women who have given their lives so that we can live free should be acknowledged and appreciated. Thank you to those fallen soldiers and their families!
Michael says
Thinking about how thankful I am for those who sacrificed for us to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today. I am the first in my family that has not had to serve and today remember my father and bother who helped to protect this country. Think of Dad and Joe. Miss you .

Another great reason I love ESI Money, a true patriot. Memorial Day has special meaning for me since my family have fought in every war since the Civil War. I’m thankful and internally grateful for those who lives were given to protect our freedoms and democracy.
K D says
I was at Arlington Cemetery a couple months ago for the first time as an adult. The tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, as well as the information about the war in the nearby building, was thought provoking and moving.
I am lucky that my family did not lose loved ones in any wars but many members served: my paternal grandfather in WWI and WWII, my father in WWII, my uncle in Korea, my FIL in WWII. I also have several family members in younger generations that have served voluntarily in the Navy.
I have a couple of friends that were drafted to serve in Vietnam and it was a life changing experience for them.
Doug says
No duty is more urgent than that of returning thank you!!
Bill suits says
Memorial Day is a bit hard. The back still hurts from the rucksack and body armor and my ears will never stop ringing from the weapon training. But that’s nothing compared to the faces of friends I can’t forget. They paid the price of freedom in full.
May we have less need for names to remember in the future. But defend Liberty as needed, as the cost is worth it.
Gregory says
Thanks as always for doing this! I am grateful for the sacrifices made by all our veterans in the past and on an ongoing basis. And of course I always think of my dad, who was Semper Fi to the core…or Corps!
Scott Peschke says
We should all give in some way. Although I have given much to my country I have not been in service and put my life on the line. Many in service haven’t been in that position either but they put themselves in that lottery. I have problems with authority so the military would have been difficult for me. I do try to serve in many other ways.
Jeff Jordan says
Looking forward to honoring those who gave their all for our great country. I’m thankful for their ultimate sacrifice to keep our nation safe.
Mukund Ghangurde says
In addition to the above great comments, for me, Memorial Day is the beginning of summer, spending time with family and friends, taking the time to clean the bbq grill, clean up the outdoor furniture, and get ready for summer.
Julie Porter says
Thankful for all of our military. It was a privilege to provide eye care to veterans and interact one on one with them. Remembering all who made the ultimate sacrifice with their lives.

I am grateful to those who serve our country. We thank our service men and women by donating to wounded soldiers through the wounded warrior project.

It’s always a great holiday to reflect on how lucky we are to have the freedoms afforded to us from the sacrifice of our veterans.
Ken says
All gave some; some gave all. God bless the USA
CB says
My father was a career Army and served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam conflict. He didn’t want to talk about what he saw as a LT Col with people reporting to him. But i remember people stopping by to say hello and thank you to him over the years, so that is a good memory. Fly your flags for all holidays and be proud to be in this country.
Andy Mould says
As you are celebrating with friends and family Remember this weekend is not about living Veterans, it is about our brothers and sisters who gave it all. Enjoy and celebrate all those who sacrificed to defend the Freedom we have

As someone whose entire career has been dedicated to serving the men and women of the armed forces and their families, I want to say a big “thank you” for the sacrifices made every single day to protect our beautiful country and everything it stands for! God bless America!
Arnie L says
Thank you to all who serve our country. On Memorial Day our family tries to visit a different cemetery each year to honor the American flag gravestones.

I also want to thank the living family members of deceased soldiers who died in the line of duty. These spouses, parents and kids bear an incredible burden and as we remember the fallen, should be acknowledged.
Sarah says
Memorial Day reminds me how much suffering is a part of the human experience. Thank you to those who fight for our freedoms and work to make the world a better place.
Mark stetson says
Honoring the brave men and women who voluntarily fight for our freedoms is a annual moment, this Memorial Day should be about the senseless death of children by gun violence in our country. Ban military weapons and stop the hate.
MI-150 says
The memory of my father stays with me to this day. Although he is no longer with us, what he stood for, his faith in the country and his family were his driving force. Legacy has been on my mind, and that is what this site is all about: a personal way to live your life and continue the family legacy.
Paul says
Thank you for all those who served our military and made the ultimate sacrifice.
Devona says
Thank you to all those who served our country and made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

My brother in law was an Air Force pilot and died at 34 while serving his country. My family knows first hand the sacrifice that our service members give, and we will never take that for granted. Happy Memorial Day!

Heidi says
Thank you to those who served & made freedom possible for us!
Kate B says
To me, it is a day for family. I have many veterans in my family. I think of those who cannot be with their families because they made the ultimate sacrifice — allowing me to be with mine. Thank you!
J.R. says
Memorial Day tends to cause me to reflect on how things might have been different. Many in my family served. One uncle and my dad were in the Navy in Vietnam. One was a marine, one in the army and one in the Coast Guard. My brother served in the Navy. I nearly went to the navy as they offered a pretty generous deal to those in college to help finish college and then go through a Navy nuclear engineering program. I decided not to do that and sometimes wish I would have served. But I also know that if I had done that, I wouldn’t have met my wife and have the family I have now. The best I can do at my advanced age is thank current and former military for their service.
Mitch Klann says
It is human nature to take things like freedom for granted. Memorial Day reminds us that we shouldn’t. Love spending this holiday with my family and celebrating my son’s 16th birthday this year. Happy Memorial Day.
Melissa says
Thank you for encouraging us to keep the spirit of this weekend & honor those have served & sacrificed. My family has been privileged to participate with Carry the Load each Memorial Day for several years. We “carry” the names of these 2 men as we remember all.
Sgt Joshua P Rodgers KIA 4/27/2017 and Sgt Michael J Smith EOW July 7, 2016
Jeff Clark says
Memorial Day is the one time of year for us to remember the sacrifices of those who served without the promise of safety and sometimes sanity. May God bless those who gave their lives for their country.
Nathan says
Grateful for all of those who have sacrificed so much for this country and for those who continue to stand the watch.
Jennifer Black says
Thank you for helping us all remember what this weekend is all about. It feels like it has become less so over the years even as we continue to have servicemen and women die doing their jobs to protect our freedoms.
BY says
Thank you for all those who served our military and made our futures possible.
Rishiyur Mohan says
To all the children, spouses and parents of military service people who made the ultimate sacrifice: our hearts ache at your loss; however, their lives were not lost in vain. They served gallantly to provide us the freedom and privilege of living in the greatest country in the world.
Jenny Korhorn says
On Memorial Day we will remember my husbands great Uncle Louie who gave the ultimate sacrifice fighting for our freedom in 1944. He is buried at Britanny American Cemetery in France. In 2010 we visited his grave. The French people take such good care of the cemetery. Thanks for doing this giveaway.
Finley says
Thankful. Grateful. Appreciative. Blessed.
Stu says
As a retired USAF officer, Memorial Day is a time to remember my friends who are no longer with us, and to honor the ultimate sacrifices that they made for all of us.
Lisa H says
As an Army BRAT I grew up knowing my dad and the parents of my friends may not be there the next day. I was lucky. Some of my friends were not. Memorial day is somber for me, even 30 years later.
Phillip says
My best friend, who served on attack subs, and I sometimes argue bitterly on our different political views. Occasionally we’ve had to step back and appreciate the fact that if it hadn’t been for all the heroes that bravely fought to preserve our freedom, we wouldn’t even have the chance to have these arguments. One thing we both vehemently agree on is that despite our differences, there is a deep appreciation of all the sacrifices our fallen servicemen and servicewomen have given us so we can freely argue our differences.
Jill says
A great idea to share something about Memorial Day… I have a high school classmate who passed away fighting for our country and I think of him every year and I also think of all his family sacrificed.
Julio D. says
I like to spend Memorial Day with family, while appreciating the freedom we enjoy in part by the fallen soldiers who fought for the United States.
Dean says
Blessed to be part of three generations (Father, myself, & son who did 5 tours in Afghanistan) of Air Force Blue — it is indeed a great honor to offer my thanks to those who have; or are currently standing the watch at the ready to be called. Whom shall I send — send me they said! Praise God for the men, women and their families who understood the price of freedom, the ethos to defend it and lay down the ultimate sacrifice “on the alter of freedom” to allow us to freely live and offer our words here without retribution or censorship! For those who paid the ultimate price I look forward to the day to once again humbly stand in your presence, shake your hand and look in your eyes and say from the depth of my spirit: “Thank You for Answering the Call’! See you soon my brother and sister in arms — see you soon!
Ann says
I’m remembering my father who was an anesthesiologist in a MASH on the front lines in Korea. A superb MD and human being!
CG says
I live in a military community and see the ripple of fear with each deployment and military action. Life is never certain but I’m so thankful for the ones willing to put their own lives on the line for our defense and grieve/honor those who don’t return.
Alan says
Thankful to all who put their lives on line to protect our freedom and way of live.
Stacey Jansen says
Thanks for the opportunity. I am a disabled veteran and my Memorial Day thoughts always go to those who sacrificed their lives in military wars to protect our freedom. But after just spending 5 hours in the African American History Museum in DC, I am thinking of all those Americans who gave their lives fighting peacefully for equal rights, justice, and equality. If you haven’t visited this museum, I recommend it for all Americans.
James Badolato says
I always think of my grandfather who fought on the frontline in WWII. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was proud of his Purple Hearts and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Kevin Cunningham says
I always think about all those that have served. My uncle served in WWII and lived to 89 years old. My cousin served as a medic in Vietnam and unfortunately died relatively young due to complications from chemical exposure during the war.
ES says
Memorial Day usually conjure up images of the brave men, women, and support services who risk it all to protect our freedom and our way of life in this great country. I never say enjoy the holiday. Doesn’t seem appropriate. It’s usually a quiet kind of existence on that day. I typically visit our town’s war memorial , say a prayer, and lay a flower ( usually a rose from my garden) at the base of the memorial. It’s only about 200 feet from my home so an easy walk north. Then I usually spend the rest of my day tending to my vegetable garden. God bless these brave soldiers for serving our country
Charm says
For me Memorial Day is a day I typically spent quietly in and around my home and garden. No shopping , but maybe some music as I quietly reflect on the state of our country, being appreciative of the freedom we are fortunate to enjoy as Americans, and continue to wish for world peace. This year more than ever my thoughts will be on those who are under siege in the Ukraine. Also , ever since, I think of the former NFLer , Pat Tillman? What a selfless, brave American hero he was, to leave comfort and convenience to fight for freedom. God please, I pray that you eternally bless his family
DJ says
hello, thank you for this great resource of a site. On Memorial Day I can’t help but think of all the former veterans I see on the streets, many homeless, and hungry and just wish for a time when we as a nation can ensure that no veteran ever goes homeless and jobless , ever! I know it is a tall order, and it’s complicated, but that is my hope nonetheless. They should be honored , and taken cared of, w jobs, food, clothing , and shelter forever. my wish
Tara says
This long weekend has already been more special than usual. My husband and I just retired and are back in our home state after being gone for almost 30 years. Yesterday we went with my sister and brother in law and helped them clean up both sides of our families head stones 10 in all (5 servicemen) as well as a few that just needed some TLC near by. Today is a pretty day and we took fresh flowers out for our parents. It was just so much more meaningful being able to be here in person versus getting a picture from my sister as in years past. There is an American flag on my dad’s stone as he was WWII Navy and the cemetery does a great job putting flags all around. Love being “home” and being with family and honoring loved ones both who served and those that supported.
Michael Hoffman says
It’s important to remember that freedom isn’t free. I think of my father in law who was captured by the Germans during the Battle of the Bulge during WW 2.
Jane Hladky says
I get goose bumps reading these posts. Such admiration for all those who served , those who supported, those who lost loved ones.
Andrew W says
Nothing in life is free. Someone somewhere is paying for that “free.”
The freedom we enjoy was not free. It was paid by those who went before us.
May God bless America.
MI#2 says
It’s meaningful that we have a national day of appreciation and remembrance for all that have sacrificed and to remind us all of the value of our freedom in the US should not be taken dismissively.
Thank you to all our armed forces, veterans, and even more to those individuals (and their families) that have given their lives for our freedom!
Tom Murin says
Having primarily grown up at the “Jersey Shore,” I think of it as the start of the summer season. It was an incredible change back then. There are a lot more year-round residents now, but it still marks a big change.
I know what Memorial Day really is about – I’m a veteran. I was the “honored guest” and speaker at my town’s parade a couple of years ago, but I don’t expect Americans to spend the long weekend in quiet reflection.
W says
As an American who served twice in Afghanistan and is now serving in Somalia, today I remember my fallen colleagues.
Alex S says
I remember and am thankful for all those who have served our country a past, present, and future. Freedom is something not everyone gets to experience in their lifetime, and I am grateful I am in a country that values freedom every day.

As a Canadian, I admire the courage and strength of the U.S. military people, past and present, who battle to balance justice in this world for all. Have a great Memorial Day with your families and friends that support you…honouring your service, and mourning those who have died while serving.

Memorial Day for symbolizes the extreme sacrifice our service men and women made to our great country in an effort to protect or freedom and preserve our democracy. I owe everything to these brave men and women of service. We’ll usually attend the Memorial Day parade in our town every year and honor them in the parade and w the festivities surrounding it. God bless them and God bless this great America.
Camsi says
Every year memorial serves as a reminder to me how brave and committed enlisted American men and women are in carrying out this very important mission of serving our country and protecting our freedom. Remembering my father and uncles who served in WWII, cousins who served in Vietnam and thinking of my nephew who graduated West Point last week. Our freedoms endure through the courage and sacrifice of the men and women willing to fight for them.

Glen says
We have to be so grateful for our active military, veterans and, especially those that gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy our freedoms.
bigiron says
We in the past two generations have not experienced the sacrifices made by those in the previous where the homeland of this great country was threatened by World War. My grandfathers both served in the Pacific in World War II and my wife’s father in Europe. They never spoke of the War, but when I study the history now as they are gone, I can’t imagine what they went through. Remember on Memorial Day those who had their lives changed forever, and the fortune you have to be living in the United States of America.
robert moore says
when I think of memorial day I think of my father who enlisted twice in the navy during the Korean War….the second time he enlisted was because a young lady who he loved was with another man when he returned to the United States…and how he thought he and other African American soldiers were treated shabbily once they returned back to the United States after fighting for this country…and the most haunting sound I have have ever heard was the sound of Taps flowing thru the mausoleum as my father was buried in his crypt and my sister and I were given folded flags as we said goodbye to our father for the last time
Ben says
I think of my grandfather who was on the ship next to the Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor. I think of my father who also served in the Navy and again in the Army during Vietnam. I think of most of my high school friends who served in Iraq as well as my brother in law and sister in law who combined have had at least a dozen tours to the middle east as Airforce soldiers. Thanks to all of you. And thank God you came back alive.
MJ says
Memorial Day is special to me as a proud American citizen. The ceremonies, the parades, the dedications, even the solemness of some of theses occasions I look forward to, as it symbolizes us as American respectfully and rightfully paying tribute to those brave soldiers who went into enemy territory and fought for freedom and protect democracy. My uncle was an extremely proud Vietnam war veteran. I recall as a kid how he used to show us wounds and battle scars from his war days as a parachuter @ war. Strangely, though injured many times, he harbored no bitterness or regret, , just constantly spoke of his comrades, his lost friendships, and the mission he was determined to carry out. God bless the families of those who served and sacrificed for our freedom. May God bless America
