Today we continue sharing some parts of the book Die with Zero as well as my thoughts on them. So far we've covered the introduction and Rule 1 of the book's nine rules as well as Rule 2. If you missed either of those you should probably read them before proceeding. As for this post, we'll get into Rules 3 and 4. Let's get started... Rule 3 We'll begin by stating … [Read more...]

Today we continue sharing some parts of the book Die with Zero as well as my thoughts on them. How to Die with Zero, Introduction and Rule 1

June 26, 2021 By ESI 16 Comments

One of the books we've read as part of the Millionaire Money Mentors book club has been Die with Zero. Like several books I've read recently, I have a love-hate relationship with this one. I love it because it makes me think, challenges me in a new way about money, and puts the focus on life instead of money (which I sometimes lose sight of). I hate it because like so … [Read more...]

Improving Your Finances with The Slight Edge, Part 2

April 3, 2021 By ESI 12 Comments

Today we're looking at some key findings from the book The Slight Edge. I loved the book and highly recommend it. I wish I had read and applied it early in my life -- things would have turned out even better than they did if I had! We left off in part 1 of this series with the question why more people don't use the slight edge (doing small, simple tasks daily that add up … [Read more...]

Improving Your Finances with The Slight Edge, Part 1

March 27, 2021 By ESI 7 Comments

Just finished reading The Slight Edge and loved it! It's very similar to Atomic Habits which I wrote about in Atomic Habits to Become Wealthy. But I actually think I like The Slight Edge a bit better. It seems more inspirational and practical than Atomic Habits IMO. It was also published in 2013 versus 2018 for Atomic Habits so my guess is that the latter learned a lot … [Read more...]

Building a Rich Life

February 17, 2021 By ESI 14 Comments

I think I've mentioned a few times that I'm an Audible listener. My library is full of business, history, biography, chess, and (a few) fiction audiobooks. I also buy some money books now and then, especially on retirement. FYI, if it's a good book, I'll buy both the audio and a printed copy, taking notes in the book as I listen (I listen at the gym, walking, or in the … [Read more...]

December 2, 2020 By ESI 4 Comments

Welcome to part 3 of my thoughts on Retirement Reinvention. In case you missed the first two parts, here's part 1 and here's part 2. I'll be sharing some thoughts from the book and commenting on them along the way. Here we go... The Worst Retirement Financial Moves The book asked retirees what was their worst money move before retirement. Here are the … [Read more...]

How to Reinvent Yourself in Retirement, Part 1

November 18, 2020 By ESI 5 Comments

I recently finished Retirement Reinvention. It's a very good retirement book IMO. I bought it thinking the book was more about creating a post-retirement career (and it does cover that subject) but it's much more. It's a well-rounded view of what anyone should be considering and taking action on to prepare for a great retirement. Or, as the book suggests, reinventing … [Read more...]

20 Retirement Decisions You Need to Make Right Now

November 13, 2020 By ESI 10 Comments

One of the retirement books I've read recently is 20 Retirement Decisions You Need to Make Right Now. Overall, I found it to be an "ok" book. It was pretty basic overall and most of its information can be found in other books (so not much new). That's an opinion from a more advanced retirement planner. For a novice, I think the book would be quite useful since it covers a … [Read more...]

The Best Retirement Books to Retire Sooner and Better

October 23, 2020 By ESI 6 Comments

A while ago I started a journey. I had been retired a couple years or so by then and somehow I got on the "kick" of reading retirement books. By that time I was an "old expert" at the retirement thing and I wanted to see who knew their stuff and who was simply blowing smoke. (And believe me, there are plenty of people out there who are writing about retirement who don't … [Read more...]
